·               Conducted voice of the customer interviews and surveys with management across various organizations within Novartis (i.e. Enterprise Security Architect, Head of IT Security, Head of Cyber Security, Global Information Security Officer, Global Enterprise Architect, IT managers, Director of Service Delivery Group,) to gather use case information and feedback on proposed NAC solution.

 

·               Conducted live technical evaluation in Fort Worth, Texas of Cisco ISE and ForeScout’s CounterACT Network Access Control products, providing strategic direction and recommendation to Novartis management based on PoC findings, along with proposed architecture, service model options and associated cost estimates for implementing NAC in a phased approach.

 

·               Delivered executive briefing of head to head results, due to the complexity of 802.1x and hardware upgrade requirements to implement Cisco’s ISE solution the decision was made to move forward with ForeScout’s CounterACT NAC Solution.

 

·               Created multiple CARs (capital appropriation requests) to justify and request project funding of over 4 million dollars in the two-year period.  Responsibilities included RFPs, PO tracking, detailed budgeting and financial tracking converting between US dollars and Swiss francs to procure physical appliances, virtual licenses, internal resources and professional services.

 

·               Multiple international trips to facilitate workshops in Europe working with BT network resources, Sr. level network engineers and architects across multiple platforms to develop right solution for Novartis, ultimately selecting 4 pilot sites: 2 in the US and 2 in Europe.

 

·               Deployed CounterACT virtual appliances in global datacenters located in North America, Singapore and Europe; deployed physical CounterACT appliances and pushed SecureConnector to pilot sites in preparation for phase 1 enforcement.

 

·               Initial implementation focused on clarification and classification (monitor mode only), moving into policy enforcement in the Fort Worth office location, using ForeScout’s SecureConnector for Windows only devices to ensure automatic connection to the correct network security zone and adherence to the Novartis Global Security Policy.

 

·               Developed customized long term and short term guest wireless solutions involving substantial user testing, resulting in the successful full migration to the new guest wireless solution in Fort Worth; migrated global RADIUS authentication from end-of-life appliances to virtual CoutnerACTs required for wireless solution.

 

·               Utilized SCRUM process for NAC policy creation and enforcement as well as Guest Wireless modifications.

 

·               Partnered with internal IGM (Information Governance and Compliance) team to complete complex risk assessment and control requirements.

 

·               Created SharePoint site for tracking documentation, tasks, risks, issues, action items, project calendar and status updates; used Clarity for monthly status reporting to upper management.

 

Coordination and management required throughout the project with:

·               Service Owners and Service Line Managers – worked with NAC as well as NAC-impacting service lines to gather service requirements. Worked with service line to build the new NAC service from scratch in adherence to ITIL methodology as well as coordinated formal paperwork required for building a new service.

·               Steering Committee – gathered business requirements, provided weekly status reports and monthly presentations.

·               Security Architects – ensured documentation and communication of determined best architecture for new NAC service within the complex Novartis network landscape.

·               Network Security Engineers – worked closely with engineers to track the implementation, installation and testing of NAC deployments, followed progress of Engineer team when trouble shooting any issues that arose while implementing the solution.

·               Technical Writers – managed two full time technical writers responsible for support and formal production of documents.

Implementation Engineer (IE) and Technical Project Manager (TPM)

Remotely manage infrastructure server solutions for midrange, mainframe and storage infrastructure as part of the Shared Technology Infrastructure Team (STI) under Technology and Operations. 

 

·               As an IE, responsible for the migration of over 1200 enterprise wide end of life servers utilizing PlateSpin to meet aggressive project timeline while gathering requirements for current server configurations, creating MATS (Midrange Automated Tracking System) server requests used for new server builds, working with application teams to create aliases and/or identity security requirements to create new OUs as required.  Responsible for procurement, placement and build activities of enterprise servers to include physical, VM, AIX, CHP, acquiring IPs and subnets, applying security, creating and managing OUs across Window and/or Linux platforms, coordination of third party venders (IBM and HP), creating Nexus work requests and completing QA steps and mitigating access issues.

 

·               As a TPM, responsible for managing all project activities for the infrastructure remediation of Merrill Lynch end of life ESX 2.5 VMs and decommissioning data center servers and hosts, migrating production applications new CHP (Compute Host Platform) from ML domain to Bank of America domain; responsible for managing app teams, third party vendors and technical resources to gather technical requirements, weekday and weekend migrations of over 267 VMs with more than 160 identified applications and another 67 unknown application server owners. Resolve customized monitoring and/or SRDF constraints, determining current sizing requirements and allowing for some future growth, creating new OUs, aliases, 3DNS entries and firewall changes.

 

·               Implementation resource on Sunrise project rollout of new strategic infrastructure platform initiative to streamline and automate server provisioning enterprise wide.  Platform requires technical specifications to be defined upfront to spin up servers automatically with full future configuration and drift management control, providing accelerated delivery with pre-provisioning capacity in major datacenters globally.  Stencils are used to create build docs enabling end to end automated builds utilizing Enterprise Puppet, an automated provisioning tool utilizing configuration management and automated provisioning tools through the use of Enterprise Puppet.
